Abstract

The article describes a methodology for alcohol screening and brief intervention for youth adopted for Ukrainian cultural conditions. The original methodology is developed by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (USA). The screening focuses on the early detection and prevention of alcohol problems among young people aged 9-18. The method consists of only 2 questions. Screening questions can be used at any time, individually or in conjunction with other tools, as part of a clinical interview or any other study. The method is recommended for use in the practical work of employees of educational institutions, psychologists, physicians and sociologists of the Kostyuk Institute of Psychology of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine and is part of a set of methods of the Ukrainian Longitudinal Study (ULS) – an international research project aimed at research the impact of various factors on the health of school-age children, with a particular focus on risky behaviors regarding one’s own health (above all risk factors for substance use and misuse) and interdisciplinary methodology.
